2010 Wistaria Festival
We are currently organizing a carpool
trip to the annual festival in Sierra
Madre, to be held on Sunday March 14.
As of March 7 we have 8 members in
the carpool, 3 of whom have
volunteered to drive.

The festival includes more than 150
crafters, live music, lots of food, and
tours of a vine.

But not just any vine. This one began as
a one-gallon potted westeria,
purchased by its original owners in
1895. It has been growing continuously
since then, with branches at times
adding an inch per hour. This single
plant now covers over an acre of land,
weighs 250 tons, sports 1.5 million
blossoms per year, and is named in the

Guinness Book of World Records
as
the “largest blossoming plant in the
world.”
At one time it was trained to
grow over a house, and the house
eventually collapsed under the weight.

Cost for the day is $10 for gas, $10 for
the vine tour, plus whatever else you
spend at the Festival.
