Sawdust Festival
And Beach Party, 2011
Come join us on Sunday, July 24, for a carpool trip to the famous
Laguna Beach Sawdust Festival, an arts and crafts show put on every
summer by the region's wizards and prodigies.
Then in the late afternoon or early evening, dive into the cool Pacific
ocean, and enjoy a picnic dinner on the beach. We will have a hibachi
and charcoal in the car for cooking hot dogs. We will also have wood
in case there is a ring available for a bonfire.
Our event leader is Susie. Contact her at (909) 338-1561, or by cell at
(951) 316-0495, or by email at susie@arrowheadalarms.com
Coordinate with Susie what picnic food to bring, or simply bring your
favorite. Suggestions include potato salad and watermelon. Also
coordinate whether you will be riding or driving. Bring a cell phone as
it is easy to get separated in crowds and traffic.
The Crestline carpool point will be the Mormon Road parking loop just
below the intersection of Highways 18 and 138. A map is here. If
there is sufficient interest in Running Springs, we may also have a
carpool point in the lot behind Neo's Pizza. Plan on 10 am departure,
or 10:15 at the latest.
For those driving, the trip is 85 miles one way, with about an hour and
40 minutes travel time. A map to the Festival is here, along with
driving instructions.
According to local knowledge, (Carol has a daughter- and son-in-law
who live 8 miles from the Festival and have season tickets,) the best
beach in the area is Doheny State Beach at Dana Point, about 10
miles from the Festival down Pacific Coast Highway. There is lots of
parking and nice facilities. A map is here.
The leisurely itinerary is:
. 10:15 am leave from carpool point
. 12 am arrive at Festival.
. 12:30 pm purchase lunch at Festival
. Sometime around 3 to 5 pm, move to the beach.
. 6 pm picnic at beach
. 8 pm back on the road
. 10 pm everybody home
It takes about 2 hours to tour the Festival, plus time to eat lunch and
listen to performances.
Festival ticket prices are $7.75 each, 6.25 for seniors, and 3.25 for
kids, payable on arrival. Reasonable gas money is $15 cash, paid
directly to drivers. Parking at Doheny Beach is $15 per car. Bring
money to buy lunch at the Festival.
You can download and print a promotion, here. Bring it for a one
dollar discount off the price of admission.
John is interested in splitting off for an 8 pm showing of the Pageant
of the Masters, near the Sawdust Festival. If interested call him at
(909) 336-2696. Non-refundable reservations are required (for the
Pageant,) and it's pricey.
Several of us are already excited about the trip. Call your plans over
to Susie, and thank her again for being the event leader.
